Asthma doesn’t always arrive at a convenient moment.
It might be on a school run, mid-commute, on a walk, or halfway through a busy day - the kinds of situations where you’re reaching for what you have with you, not what you left at home. In those moments, the difference between “having the right support” and “making do” often comes down to what’s practical to carry.
Spacers play an important role in respiratory care, but many people don’t carry one day-to-day. Not because they don’t see the value - but because a lot of spacers simply aren’t designed for real-world routines. They’re often rigid, bulky, and hard to carry discreetly, which makes them easy to leave behind. And once that habit sets in - spacer at home, inhaler in the bag - it becomes the default.
That gap - between what helps in theory and what works in practice - is where Aēir™ began.
Aēir™ designs a compact, collapsible asthma spacer with a strong focus on portability, discretion, and everyday usability. The goal is straightforward: make a spacer that fits more naturally into on-the-go routines - something that’s easier to pack, easier to store, and easier to reach for when it matters.
And from the beginning, the founder approached the business with the same mindset: build thoughtfully, and put strong foundations in place early - not just in the product, but in the business behind it too. We caught up with the Founder of Aēir™™ to hear what they’ve learned about building in a regulated space.
So what’s the real problem here?
A spacer is an add-on device used with an inhaler. It temporarily holds medication after release, helping users inhale the medication more steadily, particularly when coordinating timing can be difficult.
The challenge is that many spacers haven’t been designed with portability and discretion as the starting point. They work - but they don’t always travel well. A rigid tube might be fine at home, but it can feel awkward in a handbag, school bag, or pocket. Over time, that inconvenience creates a predictable outcome: the spacer gets left behind.
Aēir™ explores how design and form factor can better align with day-to-day life, so carrying and storing a spacer feels simpler and more intuitive. It’s not about reinventing what a spacer does - it’s about making it easier for people to bring that support into the places life actually happens.
A founder who thinks long-term
The idea for Aēir™ came from personal and family experience with asthma, and from observing how people actually integrate medical devices into their routines. A device can be useful, but if it doesn’t fit into someone’s day, it won’t be used as consistently as it could be.
Before starting Aēir™, the founder worked in senior leadership roles across operations, finance, and community-focused organisations - experience that shaped a deliberate, long-term way of making decisions.
“Working in regulated environments taught me the importance of responsibility, long-term thinking, and strong foundations. I value clarity and care in decision-making, and I try to apply that same mindset to building Aēir™.”
That approach matters even more in a regulated space. Early choices tend to have ripple effects, and it’s often easier to build well from the start than to retrofit structure later.
Listening to real users - and the people who support them
Aēir™ works with parents, adults, and people who manage asthma day-to-day, as well as healthcare and pharmacy stakeholders interested in well-designed respiratory accessories.
That mix makes sense. When a product is intended for everyday use, you need to understand the reality on both sides - what feels practical and discreet for users, and what makes sense for stakeholders thinking about responsible, well-designed respiratory accessories.
Why the legal side can’t wait
Ask most founders what the early stage feels like and they’ll tell you: moving fast, learning constantly, making a thousand decisions with imperfect information. It’s energising - but it’s also where things can become messy if the foundations aren’t clear, especially as a product evolves through iterations and collaboration.
For Aēir™, there were a few areas where getting things right early really mattered - particularly product design, intellectual property, and regulatory planning.
“Early decisions in these areas influence everything that follows, so I took a deliberate and considered approach from the outset.”
That’s where legal clarity becomes a quiet form of momentum. When ownership, responsibilities, and protections are clear, it’s easier to make decisions, work with others, and take opportunities as they arise. When they aren’t, the consequences often show up later - in delays, disputes, uncertainty around ownership, brand problems, or expensive clean-up work right when the business needs to be moving forward.
Aēir™ chose to bring legal support early, before “later” became “too late”.
“Once the concept began to take shape, I wanted to ensure the business was structured properly and that the intellectual property and agreements were clear and protected as the project developed.”
Sprintlaw helped Aēir™ take a practical, step-by-step approach to the legal side - keeping things clear and workable as the product and business developed. That meant putting the right foundations in place early, so the project could keep moving forward with confidence as it grows.
“Sprintlaw has been practical, clear, and easy to work with. They’ve helped me understand legal considerations without overcomplicating things, which has been especially helpful while building the business step by step.”
A good reminder for anyone building in regulated industries
If you’ve ever built a product in a regulated space, you know the feeling: there’s the exciting part - the idea, the design, the momentum - and then there’s the complexity underneath it all.
Aēir™’s founder has a simple way of putting it:
“Respect the complexity of regulated products and take the time to build strong foundations early - it makes everything else far more manageable as you grow.”
Aēir™ is guided by the belief that everyday health products can be designed with the same care and attention as any other part of modern life - and built with foundations that support long-term growth.
Building a product is rarely straightforward - but with clear foundations in place early, it’s a lot easier to focus on the work that matters.
