FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Unsure about how we work? We have gathered the most common questions for your convenience.
A Privacy Policy is required by law if you fall within the criteria prescribed under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, including if you collect personal information or if your business has an annual turnover of over $3 million.
We also recommend having one in place even if the Act does not apply to you, as data privacy is taken seriously by government bodies and customers alike. It is also a good way to be transparent with your customers about how you handle their data.
At Sprintlaw, our Privacy Policies are consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles. If your business plans to operate internationally, we can also provide a GDPR friendly Privacy Policy on request.
A Privacy Policy is a legal document that is usually displayed on a business’s website and made easily accessible to online users.
Generally, a Privacy Policy should disclose:
- what personal information you’re collecting
- how you collect users’ information
- the purpose of collecting that information
- whether you will disclose or share that information with any third parties
Under Australian regulations, there are certain requirements and wording your Privacy Policy must comply with, so it’s important to get this right. This is where our legal experts can help.
All Australian websites should ideally have a Privacy Policy. It is compulsory if you collect any type of personal information. If you collect details such as an email address, phone number, home or work address, or payment information, you should have a Privacy Policy in place.
We’ve written more about what counts as personal information here.
- What personal information you collect and store.
- How you use the information, why you collect it, how you store it, and when it may be disclosed.
- How you collect and securely store personal information.
- That you will not be “spamming”, selling or renting out the information you collect.
- How someone can check the information you hold about them and unsubscribe from your email list.
- How someone can make a complaint about a breach of the Australian Privacy Principles and how you would deal with that complaint.
- Whether you disclose personal information to others, including organisations, and whether they are overseas.
- How customers can contact you.
Our fixed-fee Privacy Policy packages start at $500 + GST. This includes a Privacy Policy drafted for general use on your website, and a phone consultation with a Sprintlaw lawyer who can answer your questions about the document.
We also offer Privacy Policy packages for credit providers, health service providers, NDIS providers, and businesses that need to comply with the GDPR.
We handle everything by phone, email and video call, so you never need to visit an office. Once you request a quote, one of our legally trained consultants will get back to you within one business day with a fixed-fee proposal. If you accept, we will pair you with a specialist lawyer who will guide you through the process. All documents are delivered digitally, and you can communicate with your lawyer in the way that suits you best. It is the same quality legal advice you would get from a traditional firm, just without the commute, hourly billing surprises or the formality.
Our law firm operates completely online, so we can help you wherever you are in Australia. We work from The Commons Central, a co-working space in Chippendale, Sydney, but our lawyers often work flexibly across various locations.
